Before painting you need to have the house clean. Frisbee Painting recommends pressure washing. Be certain that your pressure washer is large enough. It should have 3200 psi, and 4 gal of water per min, both the pressure and gallons per minute are important. The pressure washer should have enough force to knock the dirt and grime off of the house, but it also needs enough water to flush it away from the house. Use a rotating zero tip to get the best results

Is it time to re stain my deck?
First, it is important to understand that your deck may look terrible and still be protected. This is an easy thing to check. If the water beads up on your deck it is protected if the water soaks into your deck it is definitely time to re stain. Even if the water will bead up and your deck looks weathered you probably want to consider re staining the deck.
Second, advice about how to do your deck will vary greatly …. here is what will work!
Third, no matter what the warranty on the deck stain says you will need to restain every two to three years!!
Time to begin:
First:
Get the correct tools for the job
1) Pressure Washer (it needs to have 3200psi and 4 gal per minute)
2) Rotating 0 degree tip
3) Hudson Sprayer
4) Brush and roller
Second:
Clean the deck
Pressure wash the entire deck (top, bottom, sides) then do it again because you will have missed some spots. Be careful not to get to close to the surface or you will damage the wood!!
Apply your deck wash and or wood brightener with your hudson sprayer and wash again.

ADVERTISING
It has been the hardest thing for Frisbee Painting to come to grips with. We are constantly bombarded with call and e-mails from companies that promise to drive customers to us. The reality is that the cost for most of these services is not proportionate with the results. Most are somewhat effective but very expensive. In the two years we have tried yelow pages, valpack, flyers, yard signs, and networking groups.
Yellow Pages, from my experience, is pointless. It was the most expensive with the least results!
Val-pak was better. It will in a few short months get your name recognized, and it does generate alot of phone traffic and from that you do a lot of estimates. I found that about one in fifteen estimates resulted in a job. However, I found that the expense of running the ads and the time it took to manage all of the phone calls and estimates made the cost far too much. It may have better results in other areas, and may be of some limited use for us in the future.
Flyers were nearly pointless and I believe I understand why. As we worked on a house in a very nice neighborhood, I noticed that through the day they received about 6 flyer’s (each day). I also noticed that each evening when the owner came home he would spent the first 5 minutes picking the flyers up out of his yard. I guess that is not the way I want to be remembered.
Yard Signs have proven to be inexpensive and effective when placed in the correct location. Most signs placed on the job will generate at least one lead, and you can reuse the sign. Many of our signs placed at the correct intersection have generated 8 or more leads with about 10% resulting in actual jobs. Don’t leave them for too long or they will become someones trash and much like the flyers.
Networking Groups have far and away been the most effective!!! A good group will give you a form to get to know other people personally, and as they use your services and like them they will become your best sales people. It will also give you nearly unlimited resources to help your customers. If you recommend a person to do some work for a customer and they do it for a reasonable price and in a professional manner you have gained a great deal of confidence with that customer! Be careful though not all groups are good and a bad group can be harmful. A good group will also not break your budget, if your group requires alot of money it is someones business, not a networking group!!

Well, James has done it again. I had a corrupted file on BackBlaze (the wonderful software that continuously backs up my system for only $5 a month) and James came to my rescue. We discovered that Norton was corrupting the file and James even told me about a new virus checker that is even better than Norton. Hopefully, I won’t have this problem again and can relax knowing that everything is secure. James at Kansas City Computer will always get my business. Call him.

Craig Smith from the ForeverGreen Leadership Team recently shared this with a group I belong to via email. It helps to illustrate one of the characteristics that separate the truly great leaders from the average to good ones.
Curt and Justin were lifelong fishing buddies. Now, in their retirement, they had together taken up the art of do-it-yourself home-improvers. Curt decided to tackle wallpapering his living room. When he finished the job, he proudly called his friend over to see his handy work. Justin was very impressed. In fact, he liked it so much, he asked his buddy if he would mind if he got the same wallpaper for his living room. Their homes were practically identical in size and layout. Curt thought that was a great idea. So Justin asked him how many rolls of wallpaper he bought for the job. Seven was the reply.
Justin went right to work and when he finished, called his buddy over to his house. “Ah, man, that looks really good”, said Curt. Then Justin said to his friend: “But you know, Curt, it’s a funny thing; our living rooms are the same size, but I had two rolls of wallpaper left over! How come that is?” To which Curt replied: “You, too? That’s exactly what I had left over!”
Poor Justin; he asked his friend the wrong question. What he should have asked was not how many rolls of wallpaper Curt bought for the job, but how many rolls of wallpaper he had to use for the job.
As leaders, asking the right questions is critically important.
Leaders practice asking questions, even when they already feel they know the answers. Questions, especially open ended questions, help get to the core issues at hand. Questions that begin with Why or What or Who will tend to elicit more communication, and give you a greater chance of getting all the information you need. One powerful question I’ve been taught to ask at the end of every important conversation is, “Is there anything else I need to know?”
This week I invite you to practice asking questions. Ask key questions such as:
- How much time are you actually spending each day marketing your business?
- If you belong to a business networking group, is the number of referrals that you’re giving out higher than the number of leads that others are giving you?
- Instead of asking your customer what they want, try “What problem can we help you solve?”.
- Instead of asking yourself what isn’t working in your business, try to ask what IS working, so you can do more of it.
- Are you spending more time marketing products and services to your current customers than you are marketing to potential new customers?
Asking yourself and your customers the correct questions can substantially increase your sales… and is one of the easiest & fastest ways to make happier customers.

Joan Rivers was my choice over Annie Duke for Celebrity Apprentice for several reasons. While some people think the contest is rigged, I still watch it to observe business practices and learn from what is successful and the mistakes that are made.
1) Learn to delegate and spread empowerment. Before the Season Finale started, I knew Annie would have a problem with this and I was correct. I knew other than coattail hanger Brande Roderick, she would alienate the people who would be working with her on her final project. Tom Green is a comedian. Of course, he is going to try to be humorous. That’s why they call it Celebrity Apprentice. Annie allowed him to sit in the meeting with Kodak officials, but she tried to humiliate him by not allowing him to speak. I have worked for someone like her and she actually made herself look like the bigger jerk.
2) Be passionate about your business and loyalty will follow. During the individual charity video presentations, Joan Rivers was shown interacting with her charity, God’s Love We Deliver. She was shown delivering food to recipients, sitting down and actually interacting with them. Annie Duke sat down with a recipient of Refugees International, an Iraqi mother who was waiting for her sons’ visas in order for them to join her in the United States; but Annie looked like she was a million miles away and just going through the motions. I couldn’t sense the compassion and sincerity in Annie’s face or voice like what radiated from Joan’s. The most impressive outcome of Joan’s loyalty was the amount of God’s Love We Deliver volunteers that came to her rescue in the final project.
3) If you are faced with an obstacle, don’t spend your time blaming it on someone else. First of all, the design team that the show’s producers hired for the final project proved to be very unprofessional. This tactic could have been intentional to throw a curve ball into the competition, but the differences in how Joan and Annie handled the issue rings volumes. Every single call that Annie made to find replacement designers started with, “Joan Rivers did this wrong” or “Joan Rivers pissed off the design firm so they quit”. Once the decision was made, it didn’t matter anymore whose fault is was or how Annie was victimized by Joan’s actions. What mattered was “What’s Plan B?” We have less than 24 hours to turn this around so who is our replacement?
Based on funds raised alone, Annie should have won hands down; but this contest, as well as running a business, goes beyond money. Success is based on how you treat people (employees, vendors, customers, people less fortunate than yourself, etc.) It is based on how you handle issues that impede your goals. Celebrity Apprentice is more than a silly reality show. If you watch and listen closely to the details, you can incorporate those business and personal lessons into your own business practices.
